Douglas Kenning, has a B.A. in Ecology and an M.A. in Drama in US universities, and finally a Ph.D. in Literature and Philosophy from Edinburgh University, Scotland. 

In addition to having been a field biologist, historian, engineer, playwright, US Army Officer, Manhattan taxi driver, university professor, and professional actor in the United States, he has lived overseas for decades, teaching poetry and drama to Arab university students in Tunisia, Japanese university students in Japan, and American university students in Sicily.  He has published books and written articles on subjects as diverse as Shakespeare, travel, Romantic Poetry, drama, Sicily, and Japanese Poetry.

He lives half the year--winter and spring--in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he teaches courses on Greek Drama, History of Siciy, the Mafia, Classical Myth and Mythology, History of Jerusalem, Romantic Poetry, and Italy culture and travel for the Fromm Institute at the University of San Francisco, and Osher institutes of San Francisco State University, Sonoma State University, Dominican College, and Santa Clara University.  He is also active in the Bay Area theatre community.

He lives the other half of the year--summer and autumn--in the city of Siracusa (ancient Syracuse) Sicily, a UNESCO Word Heritage Site--studying the ancient Greeks and other cultures, ancient to modern, and running the tour company Sicily Tour (www.Sicily-Tour.com).
